Neil Simon

Neil Simon, one of Broadway's most popular playwrights, specialized in comedies that examine the tensions among family members and between couples. In The Prisoner of Second Avenue, Simon's comedy turns darker as he looks at the effects of city life on a middle-aged couple in early 1970s New York. Mel and Edna struggle to survive noisy neighbors, faulty plumbing, and unemployment, yet maintain a measure of dignity in the process. The parallels to our troubled 2020 help us laugh at today's challenges, and the need to keep on keepin' on.
